Disney Theme Park Tickets

Disney has moved to a “build it yourself” type of ticket.  The Magic Your Way ticket starts with a base price for one theme park/one day.  The more days you buy, the less each day costs.

To get the best value for your money, each person you are buying tickets for needs to answer the following questions.

·        How many days of your vacation will you spend in a Disney theme park?

·        How many Disney theme parks do you want to visit?

·        How many days of your vacation do you want to spend in Disney water parks?

·        Do you intend to visit Disney Quest or Pleasure Island or Disney’s Sports Complex?

If everybody in your party (infants and grandparents included) has put the same numbers against each of the questions, all of your tickets will be the same.  If not, their tickets will be slightly different.

Base Ticket

If you plan to visit Disney theme parks, you must buy the Base Ticket. Additional options may be added at time of purchase (see below).  The Base Ticket is available in blocks of up to 10 days, but most visitors will use much less.

All of the day passes on the Base Ticket expire 14 days after the ticket is first used.  Any unused days are cancelled.  If your plans change or a member of your party becomes ill, the base ticket cannot be used on a future vacation.

The Base Ticket cannot be used to move between theme parks on a given day (park hopping).  Agents insist that once the ticket is used to enter a theme park you are locked out of the other Disney theme parks for the remainder of the day.

Disney Ticket Options Available at Extra Cost

Options that allow park hopping, extending the life of your ticket, and include extra venues can only be added to your Base Ticket at time of purchase. They can be added individually or in any combination.

No Expiration

Cost: Added to adult and child Base Ticket.

  2 days 3 days 4 days 5 days 6 days 7 days 8 days 9 days 10 days
Cost $10.00 $15.00 $40.00 $55.00 $60.00 $90.00 $125.00 $150.00 $155.00
Cost/day $5.00 $5.00 $10.00 $11.00 $10.00 $12.86 $15.63 $16.67 $15.50

If this option is purchased, the days remaining on your Base Ticket never expire.  They can be used at any time. This option can be used as an insurance policy.  If a child becomes ill, it is unlikely any member of the family will be using their theme park tickets for several days of the vacation.  This option may also be a consideration if you plan to be in Florida often and expect to visit Disney again.

Park Hopper

This is a one-time fee regardless of the number of day passes purchased.

  1 day 2 day 3 day 4 day 5 day 6 day 7 day 8 day 9 day 10 day
Adds $45.00 $45.00 $45.00 $43.00 $40.00 $39.00 $38.00 $38.00 $38.00 $38.00
Cost/day $45.00 $22.50 $15.00 $10.75 $8.00 $6.50 $5.43 $4.75 $4.22 $3.80

The Base Ticket allows you to visit one theme park each day. Park Hopping allows you to move between the parks to catch events event you missed or revisit your favourites. Since outdoor performances may be cancelled because of rain, and events such as the illuminated parade in the Magic Kingdom, are not performed every night, many guests choose this option.

Water Park Fun & More (Magic Plus Pack)

This option gives you entrance to Disney water parks, Disney Quest, Pleasure Island and Disney’s Sports Complex.  These events are added to your Base Ticket in the following way.

  1 day 2 day 3 day 4 day 5 day 6 day 7 day 8 day 9 day 10 day

Number of Events:

3 3 3 4 4 5 6 6 6

Cost:

$53.25 $53.26 $53.28 $51.12 $47.95 $45.84 $44.73 $44.72 $44.73 $44.70

Average cost/event:

$17.75 $17.75 $17.75 $125.78 $11.99 $9.17 $7.45 $7.45 $7.45 $7.45

Regular prices for these events are:

  Adult 3-9yrs Note
Water Parks $36.00 $30.00 closes at dusk
Disney Quest $36.00 $30.00
Pleasure Island $21.95   Not suitable for children
Sports Complex $10.28 $7.71 not all events included

In order to get your money’s worth you need to visit the water parks at least twice.  This should not be a problem as the water is heated and both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are a full day of entertainment.  Disney Special Events and Restaurants are not included with this option.

As with theme park tickets, you need to estimate how many of which events you might use to get the best value.

Discount Ticket Suppliers

Most of the attractions you will want to visit have their own web site.  That is where you will find the latest prices and details of their often complex pricing schemes.    Tickets purchased directly from the attraction can be safely purchased over the internet as long as they are purchased several weeks in advance of your departure.

General ticket agents may not offer you all the information and sometimes have hidden fees for such things as delivery.  They might inflate the gate price to make their prices more attractive.
